PROGRAMS
Recreational

Skate Canada skating programs are designed to provide individuals of all ages with an opportunity for fun, fitness, achievement and a sense of personal satisfaction. Our programs are taught by qualified coaches to ensure that skaters get the best instruction possible.

Kidskate/Canskate/Pre-Power is the Skate Canada flagship learn-to-skate program. The Canskate program teaches fundamental skating skills like skating forwards, backwards, how to stop, turn, spin and jump. The skills are taught and emphasized through fun activities and continuous movement in small groups. Skills are assessed frequently, and there are many incentives available to reward participation. Badges are also awarded at each stage and each completed movement.

The objectives of the program are:
  • to provide basic skating instruction in a group situation
  • to introduce skaters to the six fundamental movements of skating in a safe, fun environment
  • to enable all skaters to move through the Skate Canada system in a seamless manner
  • to encourage and identify talented skaters and enable them to fast-track through
the Skate Canada system into the Performance or Competitive program

Testing Levels Requirements
Please check with your skater’s coach a few weeks prior to test date to ascertain whether or not the coach feels your skater’s dance, skill or freeskate is ready for testing. Approximately 3 weeks prior to each test day, a list will be posted on the Bulletin Board indicating skater’s name, what is being tested, their coach and, if testing a dance, who will be partnering them. Only coaches may place the skater’s name on this list. The tentative test days are noted on page 7of this booklet.

The week of test day please look on the Bulletin Board for a Schedule indicating times for each test category and order of skater. Test fees must be paid to the Test Chair on test day, prior to the test skate. Test fees and administrative costs for dance, skill and freeskate will apply and will be set by the hosting club in accordance with the Northern Ontario Section requirements.

Partnering is an additional fee charged by the Dance coach. If you wish to try a test at another club you must first receive a permission form from Test Chair.
